Cancer?? What Freakin' Cancer??!
Happy New Years! Have some Lil Smokies!!
My Doc said my cancer tumor was the same size as a Lil Smokey. Consuming Lil Smokeys, a standing Stewart-Longhurst New Year's tradition, will now never be the same.
Monday I had another post-procedure meeting with my Doctor (really a Urologist/Oncologist), which included blood tests.
Before I give you all the results, let's review PSA numbers.
The prostate naturally produces PSA (which is some sort of antigen). Normally, the PSA found in a guy's blood will be 4.0 or less. If it goes above 4.0, then that is a warning sign that something may be wrong. Tests should begin. It could be an infection, easily curable. Or many times it is cancer, not so easily curable, but certainly curable if caught early enough.
My General Practitioner first became seriously concerned in October of 2017 when my PSA read 5.47. It was 7.0 in December of 2018 and peaked at 8.0 last March. Thanks to drinking gallons of veggie juice (it worked, seriously, ask Hanna) it had dropped to 7.4 just prior to my procedure.
So what is it now, two months exactly (why else would I blog on an official National Holiday??) after my sausage-sized tumor was frozen to death?
Yes, you saw that correctly. 1.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much LESS than normal. A sign that there is absolutely no prostate cancer any where in my body!!
(OFFICIAL MEDICAL NOTE HERE: Prostate and probably any other cancer is very sneaky and can move to other parts of the body and hide and reappear many years later. Although I declare victory, I will take tests likely for the rest of my life to make sure it is indeed DEFEATED.)
A clean bill of health feels really, really good. My doctor was very happy. We are all happy!
I go back in for another PSA in three months and an MRI in four months. Just to make sure. And to be cautious.
For now, I sleep much, much better. And my gosh, how we are celebrating!
There's your official update. You can now go back to your New Years Day celebrating! Enjoy your Lil Smokies. :)
